2009 - Press Coverage

The Big Bang 2009 garnered a great deal of media interest.

Throughout the event details flooded the media, ranging from BBC Radio, Teachers TV and the national press such as The Times, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail and The Daily Mirror - to regional radio and newspapers, right across the UK.

Sir Anthony Cleaver (co-patron of The Big Bang) was interviewed on the Today Programme, as was the Young Scientist of the Year, Peter Hatfield - while ten lucky competition entrants appeared on GMTV. What’s more, Today in Parliament featured pupils (aged 11 – 14) from London’s Park View Academy science club quizzing the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee in a mock session.

Teacher and industry specific websites and publications also covered the event – as did those of MPs Adam Afriyie, Andrew Miller, Brian Iddon, David Taylor and Maria Miller.

In all, 44 members of the media visited The Big Bang and around 174 journalists celebrated the event -generating over 220 articles which reached millions upon millions in the UK.
