About the Regional Big Bang Fairs

Child at The Big Bang

The Regional Big Bang’s are a series of free, annual events for young people held around the UK.

They are led by EngineeringUK and developed in partnership with The British Science Association and Young Engineers with support from over 70 organisations from business & industry, government and the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Featuring the National Science & Engineering Competition, The Fair aims to excite, educate, stimulate and enthuse young people about opportunities in STEM inspiring them to follow careers in this rewarding field. The Fair also hosts the finals of CREST and Young Engineer for Britain.

The National Science & Engineering Competition is coordinated by the British Science Association in partnership with Young Engineers and The Big Bang. Principally funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and open to students aged 11-18 across the UK, the Competition aims to raise the profile of science and engineering in the UK.

CREST is Britain’s largest national award scheme for project work in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) – 25,000 young people have achieved CREST Awards in the last year alone. CREST gives young people aged 11-19 opportunities to explore real world projects in an exciting way: it’s a great way to make STEM creative and engaging – both in and out of the classroom. CREST is delivered by the British Science Association.

Young Engineers exists to inspire young people to develop an interest in engineering and in doing so, recognise the importance and excitement of engineering as a future career. Young Engineers runs a wide range of national competitions (including the prestigious Young Engineer for Britain competition) and a national club network.
