The National Science + Engineering Competition launched in November 2012.

The Competition gives young people aged 11-18 the opportunity to develop and showcase a science, technology, engineering or maths project. Prizes include experience trips and cash prizes.

Entrants can enter through the Near Me Fairs (June/July) or through Online Entry (July - 31 October).

There are 12 regional heats held in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and each English region in June/July each year.

Young people (11-18) are invited to enter through their project into a regional heat held at selected Big Bang Near Me Fairs. All competitor projects are showcased to the public and entering through a regional heat is a fantastic way of building communication skills by talking directly to visitors to the Fair and judges.

The best projects in all 12 regions are then invited to go to the National Finals in March.

Online entry is open from July and closes at 11.59pm on 31 October 2013.

There are two ways to enter your project online; through a written submission (4 pages) or by producing a film (max 5 mins).

The best projects submitted online will be invited to the National Finals, held at The Big Bang Fair, in March.

All National Finalists will be informed that they have been successful by December 2013.

Finalists have three months to prepare for the Finals, which are held at The Big Bang Fair, Birmingham in March 2014. They will need to complete paperwork, organise their travel and accommodation, and prepare to showcase their project to over 65,000 people!

Hundreds of finalists will showcase their projects to over 65,000 people at The Big Bang Fair, which will be held at the NEC, Birmingham from 13 - 16 March 2014.

Each project will be judged for prizes in their category plus a range of special prizes. The winners will be announced at the exciting National Awards Ceremony on Friday 14 March 2014.

The best projects in the National Science + Engineering Competition will be invited to showcase their work at prestigious international competitions.

Winners will represent the UK at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (United States), the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar (Sweden), the EU Contest for Young Scientist (held in different European venues each year) and the London International Youth Science Forum (UK).
