It’s elementary! How to make and break an element Show

Elements are the building blocks of our Universe and make up all that we see and touch. There are more than 90 known elements and none of these would exist without the Big Bang -  the moment time began. In fact we are all made from stars!

In her fun, interactive and highly energetic demo Dr Sarah Heath, a chemist and nuclear scientist from The University of Manchester, will show how elements are formed - but also demonstrate what happens when they fall to bits.

Dr Sarah Heath said: “Some elements are completely stable but for me these are not the best ones. I like the ones that are unstable and break down spontaneously – when this happens things can get really interesting."
