Other notes:
All the above-mentioned documents will be made available to registered volunteers in early 2012.
This is a role that is crucial to visitors’ enjoyment of The Fair. The showfloor alone will be a bigger space than many of the school students will ever have been in. Visitors need to know that knowledgeable and friendly volunteers can be easily approached for information about exhibits to see, places to eat, available workshops etc. This role provides plenty interaction with the public, and a lot of thinking on your feet!
Volunteers may be asked to work in any area of The Fair but will not be expected to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of all 60+ activities, workshops, and stalls! You will be posted to a particular area.
At certain times, there will be 2500 visitors moving in and out of the auditorium and the activity rooms; this will be carefully managed to ensure the process runs smoothly for all, and we will need your help! Without your assistance, visitors may find themselves lost or spending valuable time queueing for busy exhibits while other exhibits are available nearby. Visitors may have questions regarding workshop and activity availability and timetables, and may need advice regarding other attractions at The Big Bang; General Volunteers will need a friendly disposition and a willingness to help, as well as confidence and initiative.
General Volunteers will be expected to:
• Respond politely and courteously with correct information to queries from visitors.
• Direct visitors to the appropriate point for further information if necessary.
• Direct visitors to facilities and amenities on site
• Actively engage with visitors who appear lost or concerned.
• Approach and assist any visitors in distress.
• Use their initiative to ensure visitors are able to get the best from The Big Bang Fair
